Getting Budgets Into Translucent
How do I subscribe to Budgets?
Budgets is included as part of the Consolidation app in Translucent.
If you're on a trial of Consolidation, you'll have access to Budgets for the full 14-day trial period.
If you're a paying user of our Consolidation product, Budgets is included at no extra cost — alongside all other Consolidation features.
No separate subscription is required for Budgets.
How do I get budgets into Translucent? You can automatically sync budgets from Xero or QuickBooks Online. Once you connect your Xero or QBO account to Translucent, your saved monthly budgets will sync automatically.
Excel uploads directly into Translucent will be supported soon.Can I import a budget from Xero? Yes — Translucent syncs with Xero and automatically pulls in any saved monthly budgets.
Can I import a budget from QuickBooks Online (QBO)? Yes — budgets saved in QBO can be imported automatically.
Can I manually import a budget via Excel? Not yet — Excel import will be available in an upcoming release.
Can I import a budget for a tracking category? Not yet
Can I create a budget inside Translucent? No - currently, budgets must be created in Xero or QBO before being synced into Translucent.
How many budgets can I have? There’s no limit - you can import and manage as many budgets as you need.
Can I edit a budget in Translucent? No - budgets must be edited in Xero or QBO. Once changes are saved, click Resync in Translucent to refresh the data.
Can I export my budgets from Translucent? Yes - when previewing a budget, click the Export button. You can also export from the Group P&L.
Can I archive a budget? Yes - go to the Budgets tab, click the ellipsis (⋯) next to the budget, and select Archive. Archived budgets will no longer appear in the budget selector when running actuals vs. budget comparisons in Group P&L.
Do deleted or archived budgets come through from Xero or QBO? No - deleted or archived budgets in Xero or QBO will not appear in Translucent.
Translucent says I don't have any budgets. How do I get them in from Xero or QBO?
If you don’t see any budgets in Translucent, it’s likely because your Xero or QBO account needs to be resynced.
To resolve this:
Click the ‘Oldest sync...’ button in the top-right corner of Translucent to manually trigger a sync.
If budgets still don’t appear, log into Xero or QBO and check that you have active, non-archived budgets available.
Deleted or archived budgets will not sync into Translucent.
Consolidated Budgets
Can I aggregate subsidiary budgets into one consolidated budget?
Not yet — but very soon, Translucent will support grouping multiple single-entity budgets into one consolidated view.
What FX rate is used for consolidated budgets?
Budgets are translated using the same FX settings applied in your Group P&L.
It uses the same monthly average P&L rate applied to actuals. For future periods, the most recent monthly average FX rate is used.
Reporting
How do I view my actuals vs. budget?
Go to the Budgets tab, preview the budget, then click Run Budget vs Actuals.
Alternatively, go to Group P&L, then use the filters to apply a budget.
Can I compare actuals vs. budget by tracking category?
Not yet — support for tracking category breakdowns is coming soon.
Are archived budgets shown in Group Reporting?
No — archived budgets are excluded from Group Reporting and won’t appear in filters.
